Big no- no to put it in a bigger pot. Now you have lots more soil to stay sodden wet. Just do not water it any further and do not repot a declining plant into new wet soil, particularly a lemon that grows in free draining sandy soil by nature.I

Yes cut off the dead black parts, like I said, to green stems.

Remove the top inch of soil off your plant. Your plant is planted too deep in the soil. Looks like you up-potted into a container that is too large for the transplant. When you up-pot into a container that's too large, it raises the water hold capacity with too much water and cuts off the oxygen in the roots. Very gently tip the plant out of the container and get a look at the roots. If the plant roots are damaged too much you may overwaterd.

What does an overwatered lemon tree look like?
The plants literally defoliate. Too much water triggers the plants to defoliate as well, however, the leaves do not normally fade in colour and the tips of the stems will go black. The soil should be moist but not water-logged. Lemons can go for long periods without water. AI

Remove the top inch of soil off the top of the pot and let your tree dry out for a week or two.

So expose the thin roots that are just under the first couple of inches do you think??

I bought this in Non and it lost all its leaves due to overwateeing as I didn't know better. It has recently started to sprout two new branches with leaves which is great but they have started to droop curl and some of the leaves feel soft others are crisp and hard brittle. I checked with my meter and says the middle part of the pit is wet+ but other areas are dry. Any ideas or is this normal behaviour.

On another note I have pruned back the dead branches however no real growth is happening any ideas
