I have a section is my property that is currently grass that I want to turn into a flower garden. If I kill the grass using black plastic held down with some bricks and let it sit over the winter, in Seattle area. How long do I have to wait for the grass roots to decompose is the soil. I just want to have to cultivate the soil, and not dig out the grass roots.

New Home: Gardening Tips
I recently bought a new home & want to do gardening in front of the home entrance. Please share some lawn Gardening ideas.
I am presently working for people who have a hardship. The previous owner had a lot of the lawn removed near the house. The new space was completely filled with various perennials.
So many weeds grown around and in between the plants. Also, there are delicate vines that grow and regrow.
