Identification of this large plump worm

Not entirely sure what type of worm this is. It was so fat I think many markings are distorted.
Was about 2" long feeding on a tomato leaf. Have a variety of other vegetable plants in the garden as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It bears a similarity to various Noctuid caterpillars (Noctuidae), often called Armyworms or Cutworms, but there are thousands of species in the Family Noctuidae (Noctua, Spodoptera, etc. etc.).
