Hi!

I'm Emily - I also answer to Mim. I'm from eastern Iowa and I joined to get some advice because I'm not so good at the plants thing, but I really like plants. I will soon be closing on my house (I'm buying the house that I currently rent) and am wanting to do extensive landscaping to make the yard more usable. I've filled in a couple of my must-haves for planting and am working on getting some borders and mulch in.

Consider adding native species. Iowa is an important spot for Monarchs, as you may already know, so planting things like Butterflyweed and Meadow Blazing Star would always help!

I've added a mix of native species and it adds a ton of color all summer long, and I get to enjoy all sorts of butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators.
