Hi, I’ve been trying out a unique way to grow garlic from cloves, using a water-rooting technique to give them a jumpstart.

By partially submerging the bottom of each garlic bulb in water, the roots begin to develop faster, which can be helpful if you’re planning to transplant them to soil later. This method is especially useful for container gardening or small spaces.

Curious to see how it works? Here’s the full guide: https://dinasgarden.com/how-to-grow-garlic-in-containers-from-clove-to-bulb-in-6-simple-steps/

This works for many vegetables. I've done it with cabbage, green onions, celery and more.

Note, we have well water so there's probably trace minerals that distilled or city water won't have.

You may not like this but that seems like a total waste of time. For a start hardneck garlic need a vernalization period or they won't produce a bulb. Even for softneck why not just put them in damp soil to start and they will produce roots just the same without all that needless effort and time while not having to go through the shock of transplanting and chances are you'll get a larger bulb than those small ones they show. Plus that water basically has few nutrients compared to root and shoot development in soil. But suit yourself, if it's on youtube it must be good.

I'm in a situation where that might help. I have beets and turnips in my garlic bed still but need to plant my garlic. Perhaps rooting it in water for a couple of weeks will give me the start I need. Although starting them in the ground eliminates the extra rooting and transplant step.
