One of it's many uses.
We need a new water supply from the water meter in the pavement outside our house to the stopcock in the kitchen.
The supply is lead and they deteriorate over decades, so our water pressure is diminishing.
The companies that do this use Google Earth to look at your property to enable them to give you a quote for the work.

@Sean Regan --there must be a way they can find measurements from the picture, interesting.

I use Google Earth to look over parking lots of hotels to make sure they are large enough to handle our trailer, turn around, parking, and proper drive in and out. And to see what restaurant is near-by/ walking distance.

Seems to work. I've been given a quote which includes "reinstatements" which was acceptable and they are coming next week. They have positive feed back on the internet.
