People, if you have weeds pull/dig them up. You can compost them, you can make plant food from them, some are even edible and can be used as medicine. Don't be so quick (or lazy) to reach for chemicals.

Some of the same people crying about no bees or no fruit on their plants are the same ones to reach for Roundup or bug spray. Do a little reading, do a little planning, and if necessary, ask for help.

Bugs are food for other bugs as well as birds. Poison them and you poison everything else.

Just sayin'

I couldn't agree more, ChanellG! It's very true. We should all stay away from chemicals. Life would be so much easier if more people cared about the environment.
As for weeds, pulling them is not necessary:D Personally, I never do this. In my opinion some weeds are really pretty!

And this is why I never use any kind of chemical on my plants, because I know I'm not only poisoning everything else in the garden, but also myself if I'm not careful. Plus I have heard a of of those products are carcinogen.

Weeds use nutrients and space that can be used by vegetable/flower/herb plants. I pull weeds, since I like to have vegetables for our table and for the tables of others, and the flowers and herbs bring enjoyment to us and to others.
If you have an infestation of weeds, vinegar (a natural herbicide) or hot water will take care of most of the weeds, and a good session with your hoe will take care of the rest.
Gardening is a process of learning how to get what you want without ruining the soil for everything else.
I must admit that I leave dandelions alone, because the bees love them so!

Couldn't agree me. and not just in gardening, in everything. Humans are destroying so much needed habitat.

Couldn't agree more! I admit that I was once like this. I couldn't wait for my plants to grow, etc. You have to experience the worse to reap the benefits of gardening. :D

I think we are all on one accord about pesticides and really seeing the value of some if not most weeds. I am a pharmacist and I hate to take medicine. I rely on herbs and natural cures if I, a family member, or friend get sick because I think everything we need to heal ourselves is already here in a natural state. It is so much more healthy than popping a pill and this is actually how I got started in gardening. I totally agree "It aint for sissies" and takes hard work, but it is well worth it once the results are in and our health is worth it.

You are so right on there. Gardening is hard work but it is worth it. If you spray chemicals on your plants you will end up eating the chemicals when you harvest your veggies, not good at all.

I certainly agree with you there, Channel! People are so quick to go for the "easy fix" of chemicals and don't consider how they might be upsetting what should be a fairly straight forward natural balance in their environment. It is a shame, and there are more than a few other ways to go about it.

Hey, I definitely agree with this. As a man, I used to kind of look down on gardening as a woman's thing to do. Or something for sissy men. I've definitely changed my tune over the years, though.

Thanks for the positive responses everyone! I hope we can all lead by example and inspire others to stop spraying. I hate that we can do everything to be natural only to have a next door neighbor out polluting and poisoning just mere feet from our precious gardens. The worst of it as that unless we find evidence or catch them in the act, we may never know and may still be eating poison on our food.
