Hi all,

Recently moved into a new place and new to gardening.

There is a lemon tree in the front yard and we are unable to tell how large it will grow.

Is there anyway of telling if the tree is a dwarf tree or will continue to grow? (It's currently about 2 metres tall and bearing fruit)

Thanks :)

Greetings, welcome to the Forums.

Your tree looks like it may be a Meyer Lemon (Citrus x meyeri 'Meyer Improved'), which is a lemon (Citrus x limon) back-crossed to an orange (Citrus x sinensis). It usually grows to between 6 and 12 feet tall.

However, the size of any Citrus can be easily controlled with pruning. The best time to prune Citrus is immediately after fruit harvest. For Meyer Lemon this will usually be Spring.

If the leaves on that taller stem are significantly different from the rest of the plant, it is most likely a rootstock sucker that needs to be removed. If they're just like all the rest there is no problem.
