What’s the most creative or unique landscaping feature you’ve added to your garden, and how did it transform the space?

Not unique but somewhat creative feature would be our Rita micro-pond. In Sept. 2005, the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Gulf hit us full force 100 miles inland from the coast. We experienced up to 100 mph winds for hours and hours.

One of the damages was to completely uproot a huge old crêpe myrtle tree that had been the centerpiece of our front yard with a sidewalk built around it. What to do?

We came up with an approach of building a micro-pond there. We already had the hole, so just lined it and rocked it in. It has served us well ever since. Kind of drab in winter, but in spring and summer it comes alive with flowers and ornamentals.

One of the most unique features I’ve added to my garden is a living willow tunnel.
I planted young willow saplings in two rows and gently bent and tied them together as they grew, creating an arched walkway.
