Have some broccoli plants that I overwintered under a tunnel (zone 5b) didn't do much, however, set them in containers this Spring and they are now starting to bolt. Can I pinch off the tops to encourage side growth?

Yes, if it were mine, I definitely would remove all stalks with blooms. The side shoots aren't usually as large, but they are very tasty and well worth having.

That was my thinking :) I've got some plants I've started from seed that will be going in alongside them, so my thought was if the overwintered ones take off and produce, so be it....I have a backup plan. :)
