I have planted regular potatoes, but never sweet potatoes.
I bought a bag of sweet potatoes to plant from Sams Club. Note: these are not the regular food sweet potatoes, these are just for planting.
So now I need to get them to sprout, and I am bit confused about the best way to do it.
BTW: I am not interested in slips. I have as many potatoes as I can plant, and I think it would be easier to just plant the whole potato. But, if I leave the potato outside, and above the soil, the squirrels are likely to take it.
Everybody seems to say to put them in the sun. But is that for light or for warmth?
I am guessing it's for warmth, because now I am coming across some people who say to keep them in a paper bag. I think they would say warmer in a bag. I am not getting a lot of sun, it's not that warm by my window.
I am in Denver. It is still not that warm, but starting tomorrow, we should have highs in the 70s. Could I just plant the potatoes outside, slightly under the soil? Everybody seems to suggest I keep them inside until they sprout.
