Avocado Tree Issues

Bought two avocado trees and planted them in the ground a couple months back but they have had issues since I got them. Leaves have browned and fallen and stems/branches that have blackened. I think it might be due to the soil not draining well enough. What should I do? Should I dig them up and put them in pots? If so what is a good potting soil to use?

They don't seem to be healthy plants .. Hope @DeborahJane can give you some pointers.. as we can't really grow avocado trees here in the UK.

Can you see the grafting points please? if not, it might take a long time for the tree to fruit.

The leaves don't look too good.

Any garden centre will sell ph kits. They give easy instructions in how to measure your ph.
Low ph is easily corrected by adding lime to the soil. Your kit will tell you the amounts to add according to your acidity.

Thanks. Ended up replanting one of them in a pot with a combination of potting soil and pumice so I can get a better handle on drainage. Also my garden soil ph is on the alkaline side of the spectrum so hopefully the potting soil helps with that as well.
