Can anybody tell me what is making such neat holes in my aubergine fruits?

Was that side of the fruit touching or close to the ground? The only thing I can think of is soil rot where the soil comes in contact with the fruit and rots a hole into it. Either that or you have a whopping big horn worm lurking!!

Oh! Well I guess it must be the horn worm as it wasn't near the ground!

I have been noticing slug damage on peppers that might make a hole like that. The slug only eats the outside, but then because the inside is exposed it gets infected which makes the hole.

Thanks for that. We have had the odd hole in peppers as well, so that might well be it.
