Are my hostas doomed?

Hello all,

I have several clusters of hostas that we devided from a large group. They were dug up, kept in planters for a couple weeks and replanted in the same flower bed. Three out of the five new clusters have some kind of black rot on the leaves, progressing from tip to stem. Those three get a fair amount more sun than the two clusters that are more shaded.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Yep the sun as they are not used to it. Perhaps others here can confirm and suggest a course of action. I would guess some kind of shade and then gradual increase of light over time - guessing again, but I think they will be okay.

My research over the years have shown the list of hostas that can handle sun is very short, last I noted was 5 on the list. I believe what your seeing is sun singe, it will come back next year, its just not happy there. I have one that does not show it till mid August, but it was planted there before we took down some trees.

Put an umbrella over them to shade them. Hopefully the area will get shaded as things fill in if not you can move them.
