My apple tree had insects or beetles on the leaves last year and the leaves were curling and dry. There was very little fruit on the tree and what was there was small and inedible. This year I sprayed the tree with insecticide and the tree bore fruit but not as large as normal. All fruit has marks on them and look inedible.

Chuck, you know how to treat scab organically ?

I have a pecan tree... mature, 40-50 ft tall so I can't get up that high to spray the leaves and buds with anything either...so I think I am limited to doing soil drenches...but what ? I know now to clear out all the old leaves, branches, rotten nuts, etc... from the base and get as much air flow and sunlight to the whole tree...but I want to feed it over the winter (I have homemade compost that I will use) and be ready to do something for the scab when spring gets here.

Sulfur works fairly well on scab but it is easily washed off in a rain so it must be applied regularly. I have a tip for you when spraying any large tree or large area and that is to either rent or buy a commercial size airless paint sprayer, one that you spray out of a 5 gallon paint bucket with. It turns water into a very fine mist, almost fog and it will shoot this fog 40 or 50 feet easily.

Thanks Chuck. I will look into Sulfer too. I actually have an airless sprayer and might try that on top of an extension ladder trying to get as high into the high leaves and buds as possible. :) Will not be doing video of that !!
