Personally, I don't think its genetics at all. I think you people who don't like cilantro are just plain nut cases!

My mother in law was one that thought soap, wife and I get the citrus flavor.

What I find odd is the wife can eat the plant but not the seed. Causes an asthma attack.

I used to hate cilantro as a kid, now i like it

But i think some of you are expecting too much from the plant, it's supposed to bolt and be finished by July at the latest, but for me, it will self seed and be the first thing up in the spring. If you're having trouble, maybe you're not planting soon enough

And if you want a cilantro alternative that does well in the heat, there is a type of polygonym (i just checked its not a polygonum anymore damn taxonomy) called Vietnamese coriander that tastes exactly the same. Only problem is it freezes in the winter so it's gotta be a houseplant.

My pepper plants in the ground are not doing well at all. But the ones in the 21 gallon containers are doing great.

I think slugs are one big problem in the ground. No problem in the containers. I assume soil is another.

Maybe? I didnt think of that. Its also a bit shady due to that redbud and one of the neighbors walnut trees that hangs way over my yard.
I dont get much sun there until late morning early afternoon. Next year I dont think I will put them on that side of the raised bed. The tomatoes on the other side look better but less fruit so far. I still need to weed that side too.

I noticed in another thread @dirty hands you have walnut trees nearby. Pepper plants are among the most sensitive of all plants to the chemicals released by walnut trees which are arguably the most allelopathic of all.

This could explain your "in the ground" pepper problem. I understand the range of the effects can extend about 100 feet from the nearest part of a walnut tree.

Might be the problem.

That makes sense. I was thinking the black walnut was the bad one and that's over 100 feet away but the other walnuts are right on the other side of the fence.
