How many years of Chinese has your son been studying please?

I actually don't know how it sounds like as I speak a dialect, not Putonghua or Mandarin (as most people call it!) !

Respect! You should be so proud of him. I remember going to China. It was peak season and all the hotels were full. I was very cold and the Chinese lady used a different word meaning exactly the same thing. Of course, I spoke in Cantonese whilst she in Putgonhua which sounds very soft and tender whilst Cantonese sounds a bit abrupt and rude (that's exactly what I am like, mind you! LOL!)

(I had to look up the word "lashed", the example sentence was, "They were all very eager to get lashed last night so they could start the workweek with a hangover."

I think I get it. lol
