It's a fairly rare plant that I bought last year, I didn't know that at the time though. The foliage has a really pungent smell to it.

Tetters don't like the smell of my Elderflowers Got a shed full to make wine from

I've just started drinking elderflower tonic. A slightly bitter but refreshing taste. It's also available as a presse but it's a bit sweet for me.

Images taken at the end of May but the tree is no doubt still looking good now we're in June. An old Sweet Chestnut in the grounds of Castle Leod (pronounced loud) in Strathpeffer, Scottish Highlands. Unfortunately the plaque is deteriorating but still just about legible.
