Watched the documentary on Teddy Pendergrass on TV last night.
He was the lead vocalist in Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.

After going solo, he became a quadriplegic after a car accident in 1982 (crashed his Rolls Royce), but made a partial recovery and made 5 albums from a wheelchair.
Here at Live Aid in 1985. Died in 2010 just short of his 60s birthday.

He recovered some use of his biceps so used a band around them and his chest so by raising his arms a bit he could compress his lungs more to help him get the air past his vocal chords.
