It's that time again! :D Just for fun, we're having another GF sunflower competition with a few different categories.

Competition categories are as follows:
  • Tallest sunflower
  • Biggest bloom
  • Most charismatic! Something that makes us smile :)
  • Shortest sunflower (might be handy for us in the UK  )

Here are the rules:
  • The choice of seed variety is up to you, as long as it is a member of the helianthus genus.
  • Feel free to plant more than one if you like! The sunflower must have been planted this year, you cannot submit photos from prior years.
  • You can plant your sunflower(s) in the ground or in a pot.
  • You have until 14th September 2021 to submit a photo of your sunflower, together with the measurement. When taking a photo of your sunflower you must make sure to write your Gardening Forums username on a piece of paper and feature it in the photo.
  • Please note that you can submit your entry at any point before the deadline.
  • Each sunflower can only win one category, just to spread around the fun with other members :).
  • Most charismatic sunflower will be judged by the mod team - @zigs and @Ian
  • The winners will be announced on 15th September 2021.

Feel free to share your progress in this topic :)

Seeds at the ready; on your marks, get set, GROW! :D

I am just seeing this! YESS! I’m growing 3 types this year. Blooms, height, and character. I’m so excited we are doing it this year! Good luck everyone! It’s my first time growing the chocolate cherry colored ones, but this little beauty is doing the best so far!

Also, lol I noticed you added a shortest sunflower category. can’t help but think that’s on account of my little fella in 2018, lol. I still have the 7 seeds it managed to produce. Perhaps I’ll plant some.

I don’t know if these count, because I technically didn’t plant any sunflowers this year. All of my sunflowers (and marigolds for that matter) were volunteers from my fall sunflowers and most didn’t even stay in their beds. My tallest entry is ~9 feet (hard to take a picture and measure at the same time unless I’m being dumb about it).
