I saw this pine cone in my backyard and wanted to know why does it look this way:

I would have expected 'wet or dry', and that might well affect the colour more.natural to open and close when it's hot or cold.
That was my immediate thought It really does look like one, please tell me it lives in pine forests and this is camouflage@zigs does it open up like one?
