i've got some Cornflower seeds i'd like to plant. on the packet it says "rich soil will reduce vegetative growth & reduce blooming, so prefers poor soils and a sunny position, does not like moving. the seeds are a few years old, but i'm going to try anyway.

i'll be planting them in containers. given that i'd like as many flowers as possible, and i'll be using either compost or compost and perlite, what else can i add to make it "poor"? would sand do it? thanks for reading.

ps. Cornflower seeds are awesome!

If they don't like to be transplanted then it's advisable to plant the seed outside in a prepared seed bed after your last spring frost has passed. Plant them right where you want them to stay. Then keep them from drying out following the instructions on the packet for seed depth and spacing.
