I've recently been given a flat of strawberries started in 1801 inserts, but I'd like to place them in a hydroponic tower. I'm just not really sure of how to do that.

On a few, I've gently washed the soil away and placed pebbles in the hydroponic basket to catch the bare roots. I've also wrapped a couple in tissue paper that allows water to seep through while still retaining the soil (mostly).

I'm not so worried about the pump or cleanliness of the tower and there are no other plants in it at this time. Any suggestions?

That should be ok till the roots start to grow. You can remove the tissue paper and let the roots grow. What type of water and fertilizer are you using?

Thanks for the reply. For now we're just using tap water and no nutrients added. I've got an older 10-10-30 mix that I was thinking of using, but as I don't have much experience with hydroponics I'm open to any suggestions.

Soil started strawberries should do good in hydroponics, do rinse the roots.

Should they simply be placed in the netted cup or is there a preferred medium to place them in? Otherwise the seedstarter mix they use simply washes away.

Yes, you’ll want to use some kind of medium to hold them in place since that seed mix just washes away. Clay pebbles (Hydroton) work great, or even rock wool if you have it. Just rinse the roots well, spread them out in the net cup, and pack some pebbles around them. If they still feel loose, you can tuck in a little rock wool or even a sponge at the base to help hold them up.

Growing plants indoor hydroponically is the most fun in gardeing. Your plants will need a constant ec to grow hydroponically because plants can't live on water alone. I would recommend you purchase and use a hydroponic nutrient for your plants. Start with a very low ppm and your plant will grow like crazy.

search (hydroponic nutrients small batch) only $2 or $3

Keep us posted.
