I have just freed a large number of plants from their pots of long standing primarily because, after overwintering them bare root, I look forward to providing them fresh soil. Meanwhile I've now this very large container of 'used' potting soil and wonder how to revive and enhance it over the coming months such that it can be reused. On hand I've a large quantity of comfrey leaves I could cut and mix in, 6-month old comfrey tea I suspect at this point I should just toss, and fish compost. Perhaps over the winter I could mix in my vegetable scraps? Thoughts and counsel would be much appreciated!

You are on the right track, IMO, adding organic matter. In addition to veggie scraps, throw in some animal manure to compost also if you have access to it....fish emulsion is really good if you have it. Green manure e.g. grass clippings especially those fertilized with Nitrogen make great compost. In just a few months you can have the best soil you have ever had.

Old potting soil is great when renewed with adequate organic matter.

Oh I measure out 4 5 gallon buckets to a bucket of Compost.

This is for Potting.

On my Garden I cut my Cover Crop down put several Wheelbarrows full of Compost on spread some Wood Ash and till it all in.

Raised Beds I'll put bucket full of Compost in each one.

Mix in comfrey leaves, fish compost, and vegetable scraps. Let decompose over winter, enriching soil for future use.
