Hello. I want to grow a lemon tree from a seed. Read and watched a lot of videos and still have a question. Some videos show that before you place the seed into the germination station it needs to be peeled and some place the seed as it is. How should I do that? And also what the best place for that box with seeds? Thank you very much !

Hi. Before you spend a lot of time on this, know that the seeds you have may not produce a tree with the same kind of lemon you got it from. They are sometimes not even edible. If you only want to try this for just a little ornamental tree or just for fun, I've gotten several lemon seeds to sprout before with no special care than putting them in soil and making sure they don't dry out. Also know that not all lemon trees grow well in all climates. Here in south Louisiana only certain types will grow well. Grapefruit and satsumas are the best citrus trees for us. Good luck.

Hi Kalinkacs - I too would agree with what Tommyotommy has already said - in that if your are wanting to grow your lemon tree for fruit - trying to do so by seed is not the best way of doing it - as the majority of fruit trees regardless of variety - are normally grown as a grafted tree - because they take a long time to mature and because grafting helps to ensure that the tree with be virtually pest and disease free - as well as being an abundant cropper of sweet tasting fruit.

Although it is possible to grow citrus trees from seed - it really isn't worth it unless you are wanting to grow it as a highly attractive evergreen plant for its ornamental value only - as growing citrus from seed is not normally recommended if you are wanting fruit - for the simple reason that not all varieties of citrus come true from seed and apart from the length of time it takes for a tree to reach maturity - you will often land up with a weak and diseased specimen - that may or may not even resemble the mother plant - as well as one that rarely if ever bears fruit and if it did - you would probably wish it hadn't - as the fruit is very unlikely to taste anything like you were expecting.

Its a fun thing to do if you have no expectation of actually getting an edible lemon. I have purchased miniature lemon trees that did decently although I got no fruit. I was new at gardening at the time and I neglected that pesky thing known as pollinating!

I bet the do make nice little evergreen trees, at least in milder winter zones....except maybe a little slow growing huh? Nice in a pot I bet.
