Reel mower seed propagation

In the last two years I switched from a rotary lawn mower to a trimmer reel. This year I have had an explosion of spurge and water grass in my Bermuda lawn which I can't explain, as the only change in my routine is switching to a reel mower. My neighbor has no such problem and only takes minimal care of his lawn. My question is, does a bagged rotary mower suck the seeds and capture them in the bag, compared to a reel which spreads them to the open catcher and air?

Yes a bagging mower will catch seeds. Some people say to mow a lawn with a bagging mower to remove seeds for things like crab grass.

But the mower won't spread seeds that weren't there already.
