I find it interesting what plant problems you have in America. In Ayrshire Scotland (our last home) I grew a lavender border down the side of our drive with no problems especially with the Scottish weather where we had a wet and windy climate plus the salt in the air from the sea which was only 0.5 miles away.

I tried to grow lavender on my balcony give years ago and it took only two weeks for the plant to die off. I was mindful to not over water it. I think it's because the balcony (we currently live in an upstairs apartment) only gets 2 to maybe 3 hours of sunlight first thing in the morning.

Maybe the difference is in the climate. It usually gets hot and humid in the summer here in New Jersey. But we're just about to close on a new home an hour away in Pennsylvania and there are much better options for planting in more sunlit areas.
