Just planted willow tree in April 2020 it’s about 1.5” in diameter and 12’ fall. Do I need to prune lower branches?

I think I would take off the lower branch. If you stick it in the ground it will probably take root and provide you with another tree :)

You NEED to prune the branches that get in your way. ;)All the others can stay. Which ones you keep depends on where you want the branches to be.

I remember when I was young reading a book on propagation, everything was cuttings about 6 to 9 inches, then I came to willow, "Take a piece about 1.1/2 " diameter and six feet long, make a hole with a crowbar..." . I mentioned it to my Dad and he said "And then stand back..."
