Peas dying a sad death any help welcome

I would love any advice relating to the untimely death of my peas :-(

all the leaves at the bottom are gone crispy and dark and falling off. Someone said that it could be root rot but the drainage in the planter is very well laid out so I am not sure if it is that. I have been fighting a losing battle with slugs so I just wonder is this the result of the slug damage or is it something I did so maybe next year I can enjoy some fresh peas and not repeat my mistakes

It just might be the weather. If it has been too hot, your peas will not like it. They prefer cooler weather.
