New Rose branches turned black

My wife planted some roses about 1 month ago. They all look good except for this one. There are 2 branches that have turned black. One of them yellow and black. It actually has much more and much larger leaves than when it was first received. I just wanted to make sure this is not some sort of disease and that I should cut them off.

From what I can see, those both look like the stubs form old, pruned canes. They should be nothing to worry about and the completely dead parts may be pruned off.

I agree with Marck. There also seems to be a dead stump to the right side of the rose, I would remove that at it's base.

Everything is growing from that stem. I could always shorten it but at some point all growth is coming from that base and then into the ground.

Yes, only remove dead stubs. Just cut back to where live, healthy canes are branching.
