Needing advice on my Lovage plant

So, it's my first year growing Lovage, and it's starting to die off for the winter.

Should I prune it back to the base or leave it to die down on its own for winter?

Should I prune it back to the base or leave it to die down on its own for winter?

When I grew it and it started to die off I cut it at ground level because once it starts to die it is over for the season anyway. And then just when it starts to warm up in the late winter I would fertilize it. Haven't grown it in years though
