If anyone is making their own mushroom compost post some pics! If not there is no time like the present to start.

I filled up my mushroom compost barrel today with half composted hardwood chips and some rotting apple wood. It's amazing to me that the apple wood smells as sweet as apple blossoms on a tree. I also added some more manure compost and rotting apple wood to my hardwood log pile.

I added more roots and wood to my pile. I think I will leave it as is and not add more. So far there are at least 4 different kinds of mushrooms starting to grow in it but I'll keep adding more spores. I figure in about 2 years I will have some epic mushroom compost, especially because I am not harvesting any mushrooms, just letting them decompose along with the wood. I am going to keep making piles so every year I will have mushroom compost along with all the other kinds I make. Only thing I will start doing differently is using the same types of wood together instead of mixing them in the same pile. The hardwood chips I put in barrels will be ready to add to the garden for the spring. I am also going to experiment a bit with yeast and molasses to see if I can speed up the process.
