Thank you for introducing us to an uncommon and beautiful oak. The Strandzha Oak (
Quercus hartwissiana) is in the White Oak Group (Subgenus
Quercus, Section
Quercus), and native to parts of Bulgaria, Anatolia and the Caucasus.
Let me return the favour. This the California Valley Oak (
Quercus lobata), also in the the White Oak Group. It is endemic to the state of California. One individual, the Henley Oak (pictured) in Covelo, Round Valley, Mendocino Co. measures 153 feet (46.6 m) in height, making it the tallest living oak in the United States, possibly the world.
