Landscaping design ideas needed Please Help!

We moved into our home 3 years ago (Colorado) and the backyard was all river rock and one circle of dirt with an irrigation system around it. Unfortunately our German Shepherd has a rock fetish and picks up the large rocks and drags them throughout the yard mainly along the fence line and has created a trench. We would like to remove all of the rock but no ideas what we could do with the yard. We have a huge maple shade tree on each side of the yard . The sides of the house are on a slope.

Those rocks are a big pain in the foot. Almost everybody I have ever worked for that used different size rocks was sorry they did 5 years later. When you remove all the big stuff you can go with a fine granite aggregate. It stays put during rain and packs well. Check this out.
