Laggy Knockout Roses

I prune these roses by half every fall and by this time of the year thay look like this.
What am I doing wrong ?

Probably because you are pruning at the wrong time of year. Prune roses in the south on valentines day or thereabouts.

You need to remove at least two thirds to three quarters, remove the thinnest of stems completely so you build up a framework of thicker branches but be sure you cut old flower stems back to a leaf joint during the flowering season so as to encourage perpetual flowering. Roses are hungry plants so much feeding is needed before during and after flowering.
