I planted several Eugenia myrtifolia 'Monterey Bay' in February. My goal is to prune them into a 15' formal hedge. When do I start pruning so that they will fill in up to my desired height of 15 feet?
They are fairly tight branching so not a lot of trimming is needed unless they start producing floppy, thin branches. Decide on how thick you want it to be and cut it on the long sides when it reaches that width. When you do trim it on the sides shape it like an"A" not like a "V" to avoid naked trunks.
