Hello all,

I'm completely new to gardening. So, I have zero knowledge beyond what I can find quickly on YouTube or Google.

We recently had a complete makeover of our yard with new landscaping. Now I'm committed to preserving our investment as much as possible. Hoping to learn a lot here and pick up some good tips.

Thank you

Hi. I would also find pictures interesting. I find the American expression Back Yard interesting as I envision concrete and stones but have been proved wrong with some of the beautiful pictures on this site. We call it a back garden in the U.K. and the front of the house is The Front Garden.

This was about two weeks ago. They planted new grass which is coming in nicely now.

All of the brick work is new. New azaleas in the front and new hydrangeas on the top tier side bed. The original on the side was one continuous flower bed. The landscaper suggested a tiered system due to the steep hill, which would allow the bricks to be level and flow better than one bed with steps.

This is "the before". Rather embarrassing now that I see the contrast. Way overdue.

Two of the four azaleas write in fair health. One of the other two was completely dead by Christmas last year so I literally just pulled it out of the ground by hand. The other one wasn't far behind it.

The hydrangeas were in bad shape too. The middle one was dead and the other two weren't in very good health either.

That layout with the rocks was pretty much how it all was when we bought the house in 2009. This is our first home with a yard so we didn't really know anything about how to take care of anything green. It looked decent for a long time but just over the last few years, it all deteriorated a lot. Once the bushes started checking-out, we decided to strat from scratch, make it our own and do it right from the beginning.
