Has anyone used an Olla to water their garden?

I recently learned about irrigation Ollas. I have made my own but so far the weather hasn't been dry enough for me to see if it is actually working.
An irrigation Olla is a terracotta pot that you fill with water and "plant" in your garden. The water slowly seeps through the terracotta and keeps your plants supplied with water.

I made one by gluing together two plant pots.

I haven't used ollas, but i have considered it and only came up with negatives. I have a small garden and don't want the subterranean space taken up, I think the ability of one olla to provide moisture to the soil would be very limited, it would be inconvenient to have to remove ollas when digging around in the dirt. When i have a situation where one plant requires more water than the surrounding plants i use this:
