Yes. I tried to get a seed swapping forum going but no one was interested...except me. I tried but got no takers.

You can post your own plant swap proposals...who knows maybe it will work, maybe not.

I used to do seeds when I was on the Canna Forum, it was fun!

We are international, and some countries have pretty strict rules about importing plants or seeds, quite justifiably, the wrong pest or disease getting in could ruin an agricultural economy. A friend visiting Australia told me a story of being held up behind someone whose bag had tested positive for traces of cocaine, then suddenly the customs men lost interest, the next person had an apple and they were all over him, fully occupied.
It also occurs to me there might be restrictions between states within the USA, but I really have no idea.

Yes I'm well aware of imports restrictions, my whole family live in Italy and we used to swap plants years ago, until we could no longer.
I just wanted to make sure it is even allowed to discuss it on here, there could be members interested that live in the same State, or in States that have no restrictions.

I read years ago that there was a specific sweet edible onion that was not allowed outside a certain State. Not sure if it was an April Fools Joke or not.

Sort of. Like cheese and olive oils and other branding tied by copyright I suspect "Vidalia" and Georgia may be the onion you are looking for.

Clematis from seed may not come out as the mother plant, and I heard it takes years to bloom.
I think you'd be better off having me send you rooted cuttings, next Spring.

I'll take you up on that @Gemma . I purchased some of that ‘Ville de Lyon’ seed because I couldn't find any live plants for sale...but I'd rather not wait years to bloom.

Its funny to me that I can buy Texas 1015 super sweet onion seed all day but Vidalia trys to protect their seed.

The Texas 1015 is far superior to Vidalia in all aspects and its not really close.

You need to work on your Texan and yes, sweet onions abound, even big ones, yet none may be named Vidalia save they came from the red earth of Georgia. I made a Beef Rib Stock over the last 3 days that had Southeastern Sweet Onions and Not vidalia, because those big beauties are better for the visual appeal first.

So, only onions from the "red earth" of Georgia can be called Vidalia. If that's the rule, I can accept that...so be it.

That doesn't explain the protectionist treatment of their seeds, however?

Put one of those Vidalia onions on the shelf and one of the Texas 1015 onions harvested this May and next Christmas do a taste test. Let me know how that turns out.

We can’t even bring plants / fruits or vegetables from anywhere into South Australia
Honey is in that list as well @Oliver Buckle it the crazy part is I can buy plants on say , eBay
and have them posted to my home in South Australia

We traveled to Canbera / home last winter , and in the way home struck a extremely rude / cocky inspector at quarantine station , I’d cleaned out the car fridge and checked for any foods before packing but 1/2 a tomato was in a little snack zip lock bag in a small Tupperware container , well I was interrogated like they’d found a dead body in the back of the car…..,it’s was shocking …

I haven’t recieved a fine YET……it was a year ago ..


..I just looked up reviews for that check point ..it’s called Yamba ..it’s only a servo ….roadhouse …and to my knowledge a now ~ unused brothel
( due to the umber of truckies that would sleep at Yamba overnight )

I can see their argument, a casual introduction has been devastating in a number of cases, but there are ways and ways of going about things. Positive encouragement and education is going to be way better than punitive treatment and threats if it is results you want.
