I am guessing codling moth, the other things attack early in the season and the apples drop while still immature. You can get a nematode spray for the tree and the ground around it. The other useful thing is a grease band around the tree, not sure if it is the codling, but there is one wingless moth that climbs the tree, and it also traps other climbing pests, like earwigs

Same here tree full of apples. I usually let the horses have the ones they can reach. Some look ok others not so much. I didn’t thin them out early enough. The front the deer reach the lower apples . I try to pick most of the apples I can reach …to many sweet apples at once can give the horses a belly ache.

The grease band is to catch the codlin moth larva as they crawl DOWN the tree to pupate in the soil around the base of the tree.
So, keep the base clear of other plants and hoe it over to bring any grubs to the surface for the birds.
The Apple moth traps are expensive, but they do work. They are used by Orchards as an indication of when they need to spray the fruit rather than just on their own. Not a big fan of spraying insecticide around.
The moth lays its eggs in the flowers base, usually after they have been fertilised by any passing bee. The professionals claim that this means that spraying does not get the bees as they have finished their visiting.
The rest of the flesh of the apple is still edible, we just used to cut them up and purée the good stuff for Apple cake making.
