Hi there. First year with clematis that had one bloom now a mass of tiny blooms that are not doing anything not climbing up trellis. Any ideas. Think will be digging up to throw away. Not good.

Hi! It sounds like your clematis might be struggling with a few common issues. Here are a few things to check:

  • Light - Ensure it’s getting the right amount of light. Clematis generally prefer full sun to part shade.
  • Watering - Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
  • Pruning - Different clematis varieties have different pruning needs. Make sure you’re pruning at the right time for your variety.
  • Soil - Ensure the soil is well-draining and rich in organic matter.
  • Support - Verify that the trellis or support is appropriate and sturdy enough for climbing.
If these issues are addressed and the plant still doesn’t thrive, it might be worth considering a new variety or relocating it.

Thanks will try again next year.
