We have mint in the front yard that is prolific. It is a good flavoring for lemonade. However, we were advised to soak the harvested mint in water for 10 minutes or so to remove the dirt. Take note, the soil is dirty and it clings to the leaves of the mint. After the soaking, washing it thoroughly will assure you of clean mint from the garden.
One technique is to plant the mint in a mesh pot which you can hang by the garden or even inside the terrace. The mint leaves would at least be cleaner unlike the mint planted on the ground.
