While I certainly appreciate the effort and expense that goes into a show car, it seems to defeat the purpose of a car.

Vehicles are meant to be driven. Whether a daily, cruise, racer or the final act of defiance (derby!) Let them run.

There's a local fellow with a 75 Hurst Olds that just sits in his garage. I talked with him one day as I was gassing up my Roadrunner. He was surprised I drove it as much as I do and wondered why. I responded, we both feel better when out on the road.

I asked why he doesn't drive his car? He complained about hard starting, poor running, things that don't work right. I pointed out that most if not all were symptoms of sitting around.

We have plenty other cars? trucks that can drive to Walmart, drive in the snow etc. This is his play toy. Not for me to judge how you spend your money etc.

I bought a hybrid Honda Jazz Crosstar on Friday last week.

I sold the Honda CRV I bought new twenty years ago, to a guy who approached me in the dealer's carpark!

I still have, and drive my Toyota Rave 4, it will be 20 years. starts up great, has just enough scratches on it and one small side dent for no one to want to steal it, LOL. We are planning to sell one of our trucks, a dullie, ( 4 wheels in the rear) nice open bed area., awesome engine, body in good shape. Then we bring the other white truck up from the south to have here. Of course husband has two other car projects to work on, changing the Nova race car to street , an either working on or selling the 1957 Catty. He loves that stuff.

Not judging, I just don't see the enjoyment in just looking at a car.

Ii also have a collection but I get my enjoyment out of driving them. Sometimes to the point of breakage (too much wheel hop during a burnout, resulting in broken springs and driveshaft) We'll not mention the poor ranger that went swimming in the woods.

Funny you mention turning the racer streetable. I've been pecking away on a similar project. Got the mechanical systems sorted and I'm working on fleshing out a comfortable interior.

There's too much tech to go wrong in modern cars.
Every time I start this Jazz, I have to disable, the "Lane Mitigation system"
Otherwise, if I'm not dead centre in a lane, "it grabs the wheel and puts it back."
I miss a CD player, but now I've a memory stick in it with over 3000 of my library of mp3s, so plenty of choice. The sound is better than the radio in my CRV.

I've just posted this on an audio message board on a vintage car thread.

At seventeen, in 1958, before I bought my Austin Seven, I had a half share in one of these. A black 1934 Chrysler Airflow.

Untitled.jpg

It had a straight-eight long stroke, 5ltr engine, that did eight miles to the gallon.
The brakes were excellent, if you gave them a good pump first.
There were eight inches of play in the steering, (the days before the MOT).
Curiously, it was right hand-drive. The front seat passenger had to hold the gear stick hard down to stop it jumping out of second gear.
The gearbox gave up after a couple of months and we had to scrap it.

He has to change out the gas tank and seats. get rid of the nitro drip thing. its a 1967 Nova hatch back.

Have you ever seen a Grade 8 winner, or a Riddler Winner?

my thinking is , I don't want my husband to get to 100 years old and not do the things he wanted to do ---with in reason. We want for nothing. And I also get to have my bucket list. works both ways.

My dad would say that, the more on a car, the more it can go wrong.

Well sure, it's your cars, do what you want. I'm just not into pretty things. I don't plant flowers either, just vegetables.

This morning get a call from a Ford Dealership in town next to us. We normally use the one in the town about 40 mins drive as we bought it there, and it was over the state line, got a better deal and better warranty. So the call told us that some computer thing is being recalled on our SUV and they can come over to download and upgrade it, right in our driveway. We call the normal place we use, yes they have that on their computer as needing it to be done. So that is all legit. But now the normal place is offering the same, they will come over ect. We told them we will stay with the first initiator of the cause. I can see it now, a meeting will be held at the normal place of how come no one is assertive enough to get out there and call folks, thus they are loosing payment of the task. LOL.

Honestly I'd be wary of this. Definitely need more specific information on what the fix is supposed to fix. Are you even experiencing the problem?

I know that there's been programming flashes that have degraded vehicle performance. The VW diesel from a few years back caused a large decrease in fuel economy. There's a similar one for Dodge diesel trucks with reports of decreased power and economy.

In other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
