Growing pak choy from the kitchen scrap worked for me once. After that I had to buy seeds from Home Depot here in the U.S. I took off the leaves and planted the stem/stalk and it grew. When I tried it again I had no luck. The seeds grew. I will also try that molasses suggestion a try.
