These hose-attach insecticide sprays are supposed to be safe directly on lawns and shrubs, basically any plants in your yard.

So would it be okay for potted plants? To directly water my large potted plants with this once every couple months to control worms, insects, ants? Or would it have a different effect because the soil is trapped in a pot?

It will be perfectly safe for your plants but not safe at all for beneficial insects and this stuff lasts for months. You will probably kill more good insects than bad.
