I'm in northern California and have this grass that's been trying to invade my tall fescue lawn for years now. I never tried controlling it. It's taken hold of a good portion on a corner of my lawn. Would like to start the process on hopefully ridding myself of this somewhat evasive and unattractive grass.

I have recently over-seeded with tall fescue and completed two rounds of tenacity which seems to have injured the plant (turning a slightly pale yellow) but that's about all.

Here are some photos of this grass.

The remaining photos are of the plant which I plucked out of the ground.

This is a whole length which I pulled out of the ground. This plant mostly seems to grow horizontally. Flat like across the ground.

This is a close-up of the tip on the end of the plant.

I have an app on my phone which I used to try and identify this plant. It came back showing bermuda grass. I purchased some Ornamec to help combat this grass from my lawn. While I was waiting to receive this herbicide I searched online for more info and saw that this also resembled St. Augustine. Though I'm just not so sure at all now.

I had somebody say it looked like kikuyu grass, though I learned that kikuyu grass should have hairs on the plant which the stuff I have growing here doesn't show any type of hairs even under heavy magnification.

Hoping to confirm this unwanted species growing in my lawn and eventually rid myself of this.

Crabgrass, any little bit can start new.

They have stuff to kill it.

You might after doing what you can to rid yourself of this get some seed of what you want and hopefully it will crowd out the weeds.

It is NOT crabgrass, kikuyugrass or bermudagrass. It is another warm-season grass. We have a grass specialist on staff, but he's out in the field. I'll show him the pics and get his opinion when he comes in. It does look like a warm-season grass and Ornamec or Fusillade are the best controls for them in Tall Fescue. It will take several applications to completely remove it.

Could this be one of the Panicum family? It reminds me of one of my own grasses with similar shaped ''cigar'' tips.

As an edit - I have found Panicum repens ??

Wouldn’t you know I’d be out walking the dog and come across some common Bermuda that looks just about the same as your grass! The thing that throws me (and our specialist) is the width of the leaf compared to the length. It seems too wide. But you’re up there with all that extra rain and that might be skewing the ratio. Either way, Fusilade will control it without killing the fescue.
