Have some broccoli plants that I overwintered under a tunnel (zone 5b) didn't do much, however, set them in containers this Spring and they are now starting to bolt. Can I pinch off the tops to encourage side growth?

Yes, if it were mine, I definitely would remove all stalks with blooms. The side shoots aren't usually as large, but they are very tasty and well worth having.
That was my thinking
I've got some plants I've started from seed that will be going in alongside them, so my thought was if the overwintered ones take off and produce, so be it....I have a backup plan.
