So I went ahead and ordered some seeds for these "Blue Lilies". There were two vendors on Amazon for them so I ordered one from each. We will do a little experiment and see what pops up, just for fun. For $10 my curiosity gets satisfied and I have a little fun while I'm at it. Ill let you know how it turns out.

In the mean time, I'm starting some Morning Glory (Granpa Ott and some mixed). I don't know if that is going to be a mistake or not as some seem to have trouble controlling it. But then I can think of worse plants to have out of control in your lawn (and I have some!)

Well, round one complete fail. I placed about 20 seeds in the starter trays and after 2 weeks still nothing. From what I have found so far, lilies take a LONG time to germinate from seed. Can anyone confirm that? I found one source that says up to 10 weeks? Seems long. I'm not expecting blue lilies from these, but I am hoping something germinates and would like to see what they are selling.

Did those particular seeds ever germinate? I'm curious to see what they were! I saw all too many vendors trying to sell those exact same flowers on my quest to see if they're real :/ and Im wondering if they at least put healthy seeds into their packages!
And how are the morning glories doing?

Think you should find out if there are any specialist lily nurseries and ask them if there are blue lilies at all. A lot of Chinese sellers use photoshop to change the colour the peonies and even though the seeds are cheap, you're effectively wasting your time and money, tender loving care and expectation.

@vette-kid It's best to buy bulbs and scale them and you will end up with tons of bulbs. There are now lilies which are now resistant to red beetles, which is what you want. The last thing you want is to buy plants decimated by beetles and covered with their yucky mess.

Tree lilies are very cheap and just buy the bulbs and scale them. In 2 to 3 months, you will have more than 20 bulblets. Economical and fun. Starglazers are lovely and scented and I have some gorgeous ones. My neighbour, an ex gardener, was impressed with them. Don't bother about seeds. Just scale the bulbs and leave enough for the bulbs to form flowers .. Hope this helps. I have had a lot of fun and bulblets from this method. Seeds might be cheap, but they do take a long time. Best is is ask your friend who has them to get some bulblets on the stem as well. They will grow faster than seeds which might not even germinate.

Thanks alp. I tried the seeds just for fun, knowing there was little chance of success and unlikely they would come up as pictured. I was unable to get any to germinate.

I do have several lilies including stargazers and several others. I had fun with seeds thus year, but probably won't do that next time.

Mary Mary Quite Contrary. I do not think those are lilies but instead Amaryllis. They come in that shade and have beautiful frilled edges.

Sadly there areplenty of unscrupulous people who will sell seeds and claim they are special or new and instead end up being fake. These are white lilies that have been cut and stem dyed. Then they take them out to their gardens and post them on sticks in front of other flowers to make them look like they are growing.

As a florist I became quite adept at stem dying flowers including roses and lilies. For one wedding I was turning into a smurf! My poor hands were blue for weeks including a small spoton my nose from scratching. Lol

Wikipedia does say that it is part of the Amaryllidaceae family, but what I said was that the common names were "something-lily" or " lily-something." If vette-kid wanted to buy them, online or at a nursery, knowing the common name would probably be helpful. :)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agapanthus_africanus

Its common names are Lily of the Nile, the African Blue Lily or African Lily.

Welcome to the forum!! :)

I am pretty sure that is actually a lily, probably tinted in photoshop by some unscrupulous seller.

Which picture are you talking about?

The one I posted is an amaryllis, the one vette-kid posted is a lily. I assumed Swan was talking about the picture I posted, since s/he directed their comment to me.

I was referring to vette-kid's one. Sorry for the confusion.

Pardon me... I was just trying to be helpful in that the lily was probably an Amaryllis and that would lead her to the correct genus so they could purchase the right bulbs. Yeesh, didn't think I would get tarred and feathered for trying to be nice. No good deed goes unpunished. Since it is obvious the forum doesn't take well to new people I will find another group.

This forum loves new people.

(y) Everyone has a different perspective, and that keeps it interesting.

roadrunner started this thread over a year ago. In his very first post, he stated that he had found the lilies on Amazon. Since the consensus was that they were photoshopped, people started suggesting other blue flowers.

I provided the Latin name, and 3 common names. I just opened a new window and went to Amazon. Lily of the Nile, African Blue Lily , and African Lily - all the common names showed me the flower I was talking about. Those names would have led him to the bulb he wanted.

"Blue Amaryllis" did not. Those pictures looked photoshopped.:cautious:

I am sorry if I somehow offended you.
