Native to Europe and western Asia, Bladder Campion (Silene vulgaris) have been introduced in many other regions of the world. Its bladder-like calyx with its subtle veination, make these small, delicate flowers, strikingly beautiful.

The almost cosmopolitan genus Silene in the Pink Family (Caryophyllaceae) is such a large and diverse group, with so many beautiful and different wildflowers to admire.
The circumboreally distributed Silene uralensis is another campion or catchfly species in which inflated calyces are the main display.
