Hello all, just bought a home and realized the tree in the front (looks like a birch, previous owners aren't sure) may cause issues; tree is located ~8 ft from the house.

Is this a birch and are it's roots cause for concern?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is a Birch, perhaps Betula pendula or B. papyrifera. It would be good to see detailed photos of the leaves, bark and fruit.

It does not necessarily follow that any tree near a building will do damage to a foundation. Most trees will not have such large surface roots that far from the trunk. Do you see any large, surface roots near the walls of the house? If you are concerned, hire a board-certified arborist to assess the situation.

Thanks for the intel. Everyone I've spoken to seriously scared me so glad to know it may not be a "house killer". Will inspect looking for the items you mentioned and follow up with better pictures.
